The Scottish Unionist Party is the only mainstream party, which stands unashamedly and resolutely for the Union. Scotland's place in the United Kingdom can only be maintained by proud and patriotic Scots - we have to do it ourselves. We have a pride and appreciation of Scotland's history and culture. We are not prepared to abandon that heritage to a twisted separatism. The SUP believes that there should be no compromise or appeasement with Nationalists of any description.
EDUCATION The Scottish Unionist Party places a high priority on Scottish education with a focus on higher standards for both teachers and students; free nursery education for all; and an end to the diverse and expensive system of religious apartheid in education with the establishment of fully integrated, multi-denominational schools providing education for mutual understanding.
The Scottish Executive targeted sectarianism as Scotland’s secret shame and yet by continuing to support segregated schooling they are failing to act against one of the main causes of this social ill.
Glasgow City Council's response to being told by an Employment Tribunal that the Local Authority has " no business" seeking to follow or further any particular religious ethos in education has been to suggest that in future all applicants for teaching posts in all denominational schools will be required to obtain the approval of the Roman Catholic Church prior to appointment.
So much for equal opportunities and an end to sectarian practices.
The Scottish Unionist Party says end this socially divisive system now.
Educate our children together to create a better future for everyone.
Drug abuse continues to cause the disintegration of families and communities - we need to do more to crush the drug barons who peddle misery. We must educate our young people about the dangers of drugs and spend more to provide a complete range of rehabilitation services for those who have become addicts.
EUROPE The Government have gone back on their election promise to hold a referendum on the European Constitution.
Not even the Labour backbenchers are fooled into thinking that the proposed European Treaty is anything other than a fraud . This so called Treaty is the Constitution in disguise. The name has been changed in to stop us having our say. The British people should decide in a referendum.
The Scottish Unionist Party rejects any further erosion of British sovereignty. We oppose this Treaty and we call upon the British people to campaign for a chance to have our say.
SENIOR CITIZENS Our senior citizens have lived through the most difficult of circumstances. It is only right and proper that a civilised nation like ours makes them a priority. Increase the pension to a level comparable with our status as one of the richest countries in the world; make sure that those who have saved for their retirement have their pensions protected and honoured; lift the tax burden on all state and work pensions, we have encouraged people to make provision for themselves throughout their working lifes, we must not penalise them for doing this in their retirement.
THE UNION
The minority SNP government in Scotland has gone out of its way at every turn to cause friction between Holyrood and Westminster and instead of facing up to the challenge, the so called unionist parties of Labour, the Conservatives and the Lib Dems are falling over themselves to appease the nationalist by demanding additional powers for the Scottish Parliament.
This is folly and the nationalists are delighted at the effect they are having.
The Scottish Unionist Party call on all true Unionists to fight against any further devolution.
Holyrood is full of people who have recently agreed to spend vast sums of our taxpayers money to bring in a consultant to teach them how to ask questions.
We should be asking ourselves is this the best use of our hard earned cash.
Stand up for the Union and reject any appeasement
with those who are seeking to destroy it.
